I wrote this ins response to a song challenge asking us to write a protest song. Since I am tired of people trying to take away my right to defend myself and to keep the Second Amendment, here it is!

When Seconds Count
By JoAnn Abbott
with thanks to Dexter Guptil for inspiration and Mark Weaver for his great guitar work
Sue was walking down the street, saw the bad guy come
Pulled her cell, dialed 911; she didn’t have a gun
When the cops came to her aid
They did what they could do
Called her next of kin and hid her body from their view
When seconds count
The cops are just minutes away!
When seconds count
You might have time enough to pray
Or you might draw your gun and aim
And live another day!
When seconds count
When seconds count.
Peter pays for college driving pizzas to your door
He was robbed three times last month
Won’t take it any more!
Got a CC license, took some classes, bought a Glock
He’s had no more problems
Safest pizzas on the block
When seconds count
The cops are just minutes away!
When seconds count
You might have time enough to pray
Or you might draw your gun and aim
And live another day!
When seconds count
When seconds count.
Gun control means that you think it’s better that cops find
A ravaged woman's body on the street
I’d prefer her standing and explaining to police
Just how her attacker wound up laying at her feet!
Melinda took her twins and hid, and brought along her gun
Listened as the bad guy broke the doors
When he burst in that crawlspace she was ready and she aimed
You’ve got a right defending what is yours!
When seconds count
The cops are just minutes away!
When seconds count
You might have time enough to pray
Or you might draw your gun and aim
And live another day!
When seconds count
When seconds count
When seconds count.
When seconds count.!
